At PJW Speech and Language Therapy Inc., our goal is to help you attain desirable outcomes because communication is so important for our quality of life. We also work with adults who are experiencing difficulties in speech, language, cognition, and swallowing after a stroke, traumatic brain injury, and/or progressive neurological impairments. Why in-home therapy?
We work to ensure that our clients and families receive desirable outcomes in the comfort of their homes. Working in a natural environment has shown to be very effective when participating in therapy. It is a great opportunity to embed therapy into everyday, typical routines and during activities of daily living (ADLs).
We understand that our families are busier than ever, and caring for a loved one who needs specialized care can be time consuming. By bringing our services to you, we are eliminating the extra cost of time and money that transportation can take out of our day.
Our approach is client-centered with a strong focus on honoring our clients’ families, cultures, values, and lifestyles. We believe in transparency with family involvement in therapeutic care, open communication, and functionality. We want our clients to be safe and taken care of because we believe in empowering our clients by optimizing their communication skills.
What is telepractice?
Telepractice is the application of technology (“telecommunications”) to provide speech and language pathology services at a distance. This is done by connecting the clinician to the client for assessment, intervention, and consultation (American Speech-Language Hearing Association, 2004). Also called telespeech and speech teletherapy, this evidence-based approach has shown that speech and language skills in children in early childhood and primary school have improved using low-bandwidth videoconferencing (Glenn Craig Fairweather, Michelle Ann Lincoln & Robyn Ramsden, 2016).
Additionally, teletherapy for adult clients (including screening, assessment, treatment) from 2014 to 2019 was revealed as an appropriate model for providing therapy (Weidner and Lowman, 2020).
PJW Speech and Language Therapy uses Power Diary, a HIPAA compliant platform for speech teletherapy. We ensure that technical information is delivered in an efficient and easy to understand way for logging on, staying connected, and interacting directly with the clinician. We are glad to provide information on the proper and correct steps when using this platform prior to starting teletherapy.
